New York Paycheck Calculator
Estimate your New York take-home pay after federal tax, FICA and New York State income tax. New York City residents also pay a separate local income tax.
Estimate only. Based on 2024 federal brackets, FICA, and an approximate average state rate. Actual withholding depends on allowances, pre-tax deductions and local taxes.
New York state income tax
New York State income tax is progressive, from 4% up to 10.9% for top earners. Our estimate applies an approximate effective state rate.
Local taxes & deductions
If you live in New York City, you owe an additional NYC resident income tax (roughly 3% to 3.9%) on top of state tax — factor this in if you live in the five boroughs.
Federal tax & FICA
New York has the highest average pay of any state covered here — about $95,100 a year (BLS QCEW, 2024) — which pushes more of your income into the 22% federal bracket before New York State tax is even applied. At that wage the federal income tax and FICA together account for roughly 78% of total withholding. Wage earners above the Social Security cap keep paying the 1.45% Medicare share on every extra dollar.
